“Community solar is coming to New York and Our Power is encouraging people to participate in the program and support new solar projects while saving money on their power bills,” said Gary Skulnik, Our Power. “Our Power is in Peekskill to let local residents know about the program and when eligible solar projects in their community become available.”
Community solar is a way for individuals and businesses to support a new solar project in their area without having solar panels on their roof. A subscriber to a community solar project doesn’t need to install panels. Instead, a subscriber commits to being a customer of the solar project and benefits from the clean power it generates. To help make this happen, state governments have passed legislation to encourage public participation in community solar projects. The goal is to save consumers money on their utility bills, promote local economic development, and build new clean energy projects.

About Our Power
Our Power is your connection to community solar. As projects become available, individuals will have the opportunity of subscribing to them through the Our Power website. Subscribers pay to support power from the community solar project of their choice and in turn receive “solar credits” from their existing utility bills. The more power a community solar project generates, the more “solar credits” subscribers will earn and the more they will save off of their power bills.
